We were guest presenters on a recent webinar ‘How to do Sub-Modeling with FEA’, presented by Dominique Madier of FEA Academy. Dominique is focused on enabling budding engineers and FEA analysts with a theoretical and practical background in simulation techniques.

Through the course of the demo, we highlighted a full global FEA model (GFEM) to detailed sub-model (DFEM) workflow for a typical aerospace wing structure. This was focused on a number of MSC Apex technologies, including,

  • ‘Mesh to CAD’ to enable local mesh refinement and transition
  • Multiple model connection techniques, including mesh-independent ties and Python-automated fastener generation
  • Multi-view model comparison and result exploration between the GFEM and DFEM output.

A full 45-minute recording of the webinar is available here, with a shorter version, based on solely the MSC Apex demo shown below.

If you’re keen to try out some of the modeling and analysis methods shown during the demo, the supporting CAD and FEA data can be downloaded here.

Of course, if you’d like to understand more about MSC Apex, our industry-ready online course, Intro to FEA with MSC Apex’ is available here, with the first lesson available for free here.
