Constructing a finite element model for the design of aerospace vehicles is an elaborate process that involves the analysis of many parts and assemblies. Due to complexity of the structures and loading conditions, idealization is an important pre-processing phase of the design process. Engineers are required to modify detailed CAD geometry to the appropriate form, depending on the intention of the finite element analysis.<\/p>\n

This webinar will discuss a number of MSC Apex-specific approaches to speed up the modification and meshing of CAD geometry. All these techniques are focused on ‘real world’ geometry, in this case a wing leading edge rib.<\/p>\n

Learn a number of model idealisation strategies within MSC Apex:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Stiffness and Load Path Model\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>\u2013 idealization of a ‘Loads’-level model, with 1D beam element rib flanges\/stiffeners and 2D shell element rib webs<\/li>\n
  2. Joint and Stiffener Detail Model\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>\u2013 fully mid-surfaced definition of a rib, with 2D shell elements for rib flanges, stiffeners and webs<\/li>\n
  3. Detailed Stress Model\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>\u2013 solid model definition of a rib, with 3D tetrahedral elements used for complex geometry, and detailed features<\/li>\n
  4. Hybrid Modeling Techniques\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>– highly-efficient 3D hexahedral rib feature modeling techniques, used as a stand-alone mesh type, or as a hybrid approach in conjunction with 3D tetrahedral and\/or 2D shell models<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
